Today I was browsing through the Internet and looked up the name of someone who put me on the road to new adventure in 1998.
His name is Charles Sparks and, because of his website that I found on the internet, I myself started writing prisoners on Death Row in different states in the USA.
Eventually I created my own website called Prison Potpourri.com and must say that it did very well for 10 years until I decided to retire. During that time a few of the penpals were executed and one of them had his sentence changed to 2nd Degree murder and he left prison in 2008. Another is still on death row although I thought the sentence would be changed.
I still write..via snailmail..a prisoner in Colorado and we are into our 21st year of correspondence! This..to my mind anyway..is something of a record because he was 39 yrs old when we started out and is soon to turn 61! Another record is that in all these years of correspondence only maybe 1 or 2 letters have gone astray and that's a miracle considering that I live in Scandinavia!
In his last letter..which took 2 months to get here due to the virus pandemic and restrictions...he told me he'd had the Corona virus but had made it through!
Lastly, but most importantly, it seems he has given his life over to Jesus Christ and this is awesome indeed! As his crime falls under felony murder which not all states follow, I'm hoping he may yet get released should the law change! With God all things are possible if the heart is in it but if it is not going to happen I'm hoping that he will be used in the prison to change other hearts!
Well anyway I'm glad Mr Sparks put me on the road and that I found this article about his work!
